Field notes

Works with ukulele, guitar, banjo, piano, whistling, singing — anything with a clear single pitch.

Let each note ring cleanly. For repeated notes just pluck again — the attack re-arms the listener.

Quiet room helps. If your instrument sits in another octave, tick any octave counts.

Hear this note and Play the tune pause the judging, so the speaker won't accidentally play the tune for you.

Guitar and tenor banjo read the octave clef — the little 8 under the treble clef. Same positions on the stave, sounds an octave lower, and the listener expects that octave automatically.

ABC support covers single melody lines: keys and modes, 4/4 · 3/4 · 2/4 · 6/8 · 9/8 and friends, dotted rhythms (a>b), triplets (3abc, ties, rests. Not yet: 1st/2nd endings, chords-in-melody, grace notes.
